NEW POST 9/11 GI BILL (CHAPTER 33)

For those of you eligible for this new chapter, here is some vital information:

A VA application 22-1990 will need to be submitted to the VA AND processed BEFORE you will be able to use it for your classes at Saint Leo University/ COL.

Your VA representative will need a copy of your application and your certificate of eligibility BEFORE a 1999 can be submitted to the VA on your behalf.

Saint Leo University/COL will begin accepting chapter 33 usage beginning FALL 2009 (class start date 8/31/09)

Saint Leo University/COL falls under the category of online classes; therefore the housing allowance paid to chapter 33 recipients will NOT be available. (not yet anyway. Contact your Congressman and request this part of the bill be changed.)

Your annual book allowance will be paid directly to you per term at the pro-rated amount of $41.67 per credit hour (up to 24 credits).

Remember that chapter 33 is based on your aggregate ACTIVE DUTY service time accrued after September 10, 2001.

• 3 yrs (36 months) - 100% of the Florida Tuition Rate*
• >2 yrs (30 - <36 months) - 90%
• 2 yrs (24 - <30 months) - 80%
• 1 ½ yrs (18 - <24 months) - 70%
• 1 yr (12 - <18 months) - 60%
• 6 - <12 months - 50%
• 90 days - <6 months - 40%

*Current State Tuition Rates being paid by the VA can be found on www.gibill.va.gov

If you are eligible for chapter 30 and chapter 33, please speak with a VA representative before signing away your options. Once you elect chapter 33, it is irrevocable.
